Some causes of governmental shift in France were economic instability, separation of Classes, restlessness, and lack of communication between the Government and the People. These are just a few of the different forms of government that France has had throughout it's history.
Monarchy- This was the first form of government that France had. They had a king who had complete power over the people. This form of government had its ups and downs, and was eventually removed from the country after the French Revolution. Although it was reinstated for a short time in the nineteenth century, it didn't last long before France was turned into a republic.
Empire- This was first put into place by Napoleon Bonaparte. He began the Napoleonic Wars and ruled one of the largest empires in the world. He eventually lost power when France returned to a monarchy in the nineteenth century.
Republic- France has gone through a series of Republics since the eighteenth century. They have all been slightly different, with a huge range of rulers from both ends of the political spectrum.
Fifth Republic- Founded by Charles De Gaulle, this is the form of government that France has today. As stated earlier, it is similar to the British because of its incorporation of a parliamentary system.
