Since the Crash of 2008, France’s economy has experienced many of the same problems as the United States. Unemployment in France is currently 9.8%. But with a population of 65,436,552 people, it is not as great a cause of concern. However, they have a very diverse economy, and they are beginning to grow again. Industries in France include machinery, chemicals, automobiles, metallurgy, aircraft, electronics, textiles, food processing, and tourism. Some of their exports are machinery and transportation equipment, aircraft, plastics, chemicals, pharmaceutical products, iron and steel, and beverages. They import goods such as machinery and equipment, vehicles, crude oil, aircraft, plastics, and chemicals. The government is heavily involved in economy, as well as other aspects of people’s lives. After World War 2, the government nationalized a lot of public utilities as a way to help improve the economy. They also coined the term, dirigisme, which is how they describe state management of their capitalist economy.
