The Socialist Shift in FrancE
Supporters of the Socialist Party of France after the 2012 election.
Francois Hollande beat President Sarkozy in the French Election of 2012, becoming the first socialist president in french history. This event was landmarked by huge support from young students and adult, who believed that Hollande would solve the problems of unemployment and economic downfall.
This shift in government is a hot button topic in French society right now. The economy is getting worse and unemployment is rising, and the citizens are restless and eager for change again. President Francois Hollande's popularity is at it's all time low, and he is currently holding the record poll numbers as the most unpopular president France has ever had. Therefore, he and his party are working to change this issue by touring the provinces and working with the people to solve these issues the way that they want. They have begun to gain back support, and President Hollande is making every effort to change the state of the country for the betterment of the people. However, it is also the fault of the people for the inability to make progress. Their rigidity and refusal to cooperate with the government make it very difficult for President Hollande to do his job.
Some predict that the economy will continue to decrease and unemployment will rise, simply because of the political disagreements between the people and their president. In the next three years, we will find out if there will be another huge swing of the pendulum to the other side of the spectrum, where Marine Le Pen sits waiting to influence France.
