The Current Government Regime in France is the Fifth Republic. The Fifth Republic was established in 1958. This form of government was enacted after a series of reforms led by Charles De Gaulle. The political atmosphere in France is now one that is more similar to that of Great Britain because of their similar parliamentary system. There is also a large number of women involved in France's political scene, as is the case in Great Britain as well. France's Fifth Republic has a Prime Minister, A President, and a bicameral parliament. Francois Hollande is the first Socialist President that France has ever had. The Socialist shift in France was not completely expected, because Nicolas Sarkozy, the former president, was the head of the Conservative Party. Nicolas Sarkozy was very popular, but he lost a lot of support after the World Economy Recession of 2008. There are about five main parties in France. Some of the different political parties are the Radicals, the Socialists, the Communists, the Liberals, and the Conservatives. Their electoral system is a proportional representational system. They use a single-member district, two-ballot system to elect their officials.
