Expression of religion

Expression of religion in public places in France is illegal. There is a huge separation between church and state in France because the government is more liberal and wants to avoid offending citizens and tourists. The largest protest against this law is muslim women. These women believe that they have the right to express their religion through the headscarves they choose to wear. However, there is also debates by other feminist groups who believe that degrades women to be veiled in public places. While the law forbids hijabs in public places, most muslim women don't follow the law, and it is still protested today.
Most of those that protest this issue are islamic groups. There are also human and civil rights groups that protest as well. Islamic groups believe that this law is an example of French bigotry against muslims. There isn't really an organized group that endorses wearing the veil, but a lot of individuals gather to protest the laws against it still.

Retirement Age

The retirement age for pensioners was 60 years old for a very long time. It was not until recently when former president Nicolas Sarkozy passed a law that it would be increased to 62 years old. This caused a lot of turmoil in France. There were thousands of unions and other pension workers who protested for weeks after the passing of the law. There are still protests today, and people of different groups and organizations working to get this law repealed.
An organization working to refute this issue is the Socialist party. When the law was passed, they greatly opposed it because of the conservative morals behind it. Now that they are in power, President Francois Hollande and his party are doing all that they can do to begin to change this law and others that are similar to it. This issue's organization also ties into the issue of the socialist movement happening in France that I will discuss later.

Unemployment
![Picture](/uploads/1/9/5/2/19521371/7973731.jpg)
This is a serious issue in France right now. Unemployment has reached record highs in this past year. it is at 10.6%, which is the highest it has been since 1999. One of the relating issues to this is the amount of illegal immigrants that are also in the country. Many protests have happened throughout France because the people are not happy that the President, Francois Hollande, has not solved this problem. Instead, it has gotten worse throughout his presidency.
While there is no formal non-government organizations that i could find fighting this issue, the Socialist party is again involved in solving the problems the government is facing. They are trying to create more jobs as well as social programs to continue to help people through this economic slump. There process is very similar to that of Franklin Delano Roosevelt from the 1930's.

Illegal Immigration

Immigration is a big issue in France. Due to all of the recent turmoil in the Middle East and North Africa, a lot of people have immigrated to France due to it's colonial connections to these countries. Therefore, France is struggling with providing enough jobs for its naturalized citizens as well as illegal immigrants. It has been a much debated issue recently because of the changes that President Francois Hollande has made to the program that former president Nicolas Sarkozy had put into motion.
The Socialist party is changing this issue by enacting a program to standardize residency requirements. For immigrants who have lived in the country for a certain number of years and had proof of work contracts, could stay and receive naturalization papers. Also, for students under the age of 18 who have lived in the country and been in the school system for 3 years could become naturalized citizens as well. Overall, the party is trying to make it easier for illegal immigrants to become naturalized citizens.

This shift in government is a hot button topic in French society right now. The economy is getting worse and unemployment is rising, and the citizens are restless and eager for change. It is affecting many other issues in the country as well, therefore causing problems in other parts of the country as well.
President Francois Hollande's popularity is at it's all time low, and he is currently holding the record poll numbers as the most unpopular president France has ever had. Therefore, he and his party are working to change the issue by touring the provinces and working with the people to solve these issues the way that they want.
